Bishop Budde at LAPC: We Can be Brave!
We here at LAPC are honored to partner with Greenlight Bookstore to host Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde for an all-ages talk about her new book, We Can Be Brave: How We Learn to Be Brave in Life’s Decisive Moments, a young people’s adaptation of her book on bravery in difficult times.
Being brave is nothing new for Bishop Budde. The bishop and spiritual leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, D.C., came to national attention for her bold call for mercy and compassion in front of national leaders at the interfaith prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral in January 2025.
The event will be held here at Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church, in Fort Greene on Thursday, October 16, from 7:30-8:30pm. Enter at 85 South Oxford Street, between Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue.
Bishop Budde will be in conversation with Cornelius Minor, a Brooklyn-based educator and part-time Pokemon trainer. He works with teachers, school leaders, and leaders of community-based organizations to support equitable literacy reform in cities (and sometimes villages) across the globe. Cornelius is also a member and ruling Elder here at Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Fort Greene, regularly teaches Sunday School and helps lead and organize the church’s Vacation Bible School Program. Read more about Cornelius.
The talk will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Admission is free but space is limited; you must RSVP to reserve your seat.
