For over 25 years, the congregation, members and friends of LAPC have been committed to restoring and preserving this 167+ year-old historic church building, a refuge and resource for the community, for future generations.
In 1997, utilizing a building condition study, we raised funds to repair the slate roof and address leaks in the sanctuary and lecture hall. We replaced the flat roof over the Parrish House and removed asbestos from all the basement heating pipes.
In 2004, with a matching grant from the World Monument Fund, we began to restore the collection of stained-glass windows. Eighteen of the 27 American art glass windows in the church are by Tiffany Studios. There are three windows yet to be restored.
In 2007, the brownstone facade of the bell tower was deteriorating. Scaffolding was installed and funds raised to restore the tower.
In 2022, it was revealed there was a need to make urgent repairs due to structural deterioration of the front foundation facing Lafayette Avenue. Read about the Foundation Stabilization Project and view photos of the original stone foundation wall.
Maintenance projects are necessary and ongoing as they are in any building of this age. Together along with the Sanctuary Ceiling & Pipe Organ Capital Project, we will ensure this community asset will be here for generations to come.
